Secondary School Initiatives
Since 2011, CLAC's secondary school initiatives have focused on increasing high school students’ interest and involvement in the skilled trades.
CLAC initially supplied $200,000 to get a welding program up and running at St. Joseph High School, Edmonton, and we’ve committed another $20,000 per year for five years to sustain the project. The program will not only focus on welding but will expand into other trades as well.
We’re currently in negotiations with potential partners in the auto body and carpentry sectors to introduce programs at St. Joseph High School. Our goal is to expand the program from coast to coast, setting up partnerships in each province to help rebuild the profile of the skilled trades in Canadian high schools.
